Does anyone know where I can get a legible schematic for my Scott 299A?
I printed a Sam's Photofact from the HH Scott website and found several errors in it. I found another that is a scan of an actual HH Scott schematic, but the scan is so poor that many of the component values can't be read. Are any legible actual HH Scott schematics available? Or any other accurate and legible 299A schematics? A legible parts list would be wonderful too. Thanks |

How serious are the errors? I unfortunately don't know where my old schematics are at this point, but Scott was somewhat notorious for making subtle or not so subtle design changes and not documenting them well.. It is possible that the unit Sams used was slightly earlier or later than your unit, but most of the information should still be usable.

The biggest descrepancy I saw on the Sam's schematic was the value of the bias resistor that is connected to the rectifier tube. It was listed as a 330 ohm 10W resistor whereas the Scott schematic and the actual unit have a 160 ohm 20W.
Wait! What is this? I just looked at the Sam's schematic and found another 330 ohm 10W in parallel. Boy do I feel humble now! Still, there are differences that are disconcerting. They may simply be another way of accomplishing the same thing like the bias resistor change, but I lack the education to make educated guesses when it comes to electronics. A clear copy of the actual HH Scott schematic would be great to have. |

Hi Mike,
Here's a site, I found today, which has a slew of schematics including a lot of the Scott, Fisher, Dynaco amps. Funnily, the 299a is listed & should have a schematic link but it's not working. Maybe the other Scott amp circuits are similar & could help you. John Edit: forgot site URL: http://www.one-electron.com/FC_Consumer.html |

299 (Sams) schematic is at hhscott.com:
http://hhscott.com/pdf/sd/299A_3_4s.JPG Scott schematic is at http://oldtech.net/HHScott/299.gif I don't know if there WAS an "A" model... both just show "299", no "A". |

jkeny- That's really too bad that the link doesn't work for the 299. Looks like a great one for old tube stuff in general, though!
Tom- I printed out a scematic from the link that you suggested and while not 100% legible, it's way better than the one I had. Thanks! |
