I have searched the threads but of course the debate rages... Whats the lowdown on SRPP... vs Cathode follower (with regards to a 6sn7 preamp) and what if you convert the srpp into a true ccs? what then. Is this all about cancellation of the second harmonics and harshness (read odd order harmonics)

Briefly...
SRPP has gain; a cathode follower generally has about 1dB loss. SRPP doesn't have the full gain of mu, so it has significantly higher distortion than a mu-follower. The distortion of the lower valve has to be very low before there's any cancellation with the upper valve (effectively a cathode follower), so that means that only mu-followers need apply for cancellation, and even then the effect is barely noticeable.
