Default Broken Tube pin guides

Hi,

I was able to get some SV6550C tubes from a friend . It was stored for a long time and was known working before storage. The pin guides are broken and also noticed a hairline scratch/crack . Is it safe to plug in the tubes ? What is the consequence if i plug it in ? .. will it explode .. spoil some parts of the circuitry .. or spoil my speaker ?

cheers

If the glass is cracked, it could shatter when it heats up. If it's just a scratch, not too much worries. Your getter flash looks good, so a crack is unlikely.

Do run for say an hour in an uninhabited area so if it does fracture, people or pets aren't injured. Just to be safe.

Broken index, no problem. Just make sure the "slot" is lined up between pins 1 and 8.

Cheers!

Thanks for reply . It may be a slight scratch but not really penetrated the glass as the getter flash still clear.

Too bad it is a great tube ( C-winged Svetlana ) .. but i think i'd rather replace it for safety.

If Its not cracked, and your worried about not having a guide pin.

Antique Electronic supply sells a nice little replacement guide pin that slides on over the metal pins.

Its located under Vacumm Tube Accesories / Adapters.

Not cheap, but handy.
