Could anyone recommend a tube based Moving Coil head amp schematic for me to build? Preferably something simple based on the 6922 or similar.
Has anyone built such a beast? When I build a head amp do I put it between the player and the phono stage or do I hook it into the regular line amp stage?
I have a Rega 2 with a Sony XL-MC1 hooked to a modified PAS3 type preamp. There is just not enough gain to sound anything close to reasonable. Even when I swap out the 5751 tubes for 12AX7s there is not much of a change.
Thanks in advance, I have never been disappointed in the knowledge given here.

You might want to check out the first stage of Allen Wright's preamps. www.vacuumstate.com
If I were to use a 6922/E88CC family tube, I would definitely use a step-up transformer if the solid state bit of Allen's design scares you.

Try a pair of CineMag CMQEE-3440A Step up transformers:

There are others using these for low output MC's, just search the Vinyl Asylum. I just may give them a try myself.
