As I'm pretty new to this, I thought I'd ask about types of electrolytics to use for HV/B+.
I've been using Panasonic ED series caps. These are obviously smaller than the originals, but are they "as good" as replacements? What is best for non-top-end-just-test-kit re-capping? For repairing old kit "in keeping", I've been using Ask Jan

Those are fine. The small package is a reflection on the progress made in capacitor technology. A good low ESR, high ripple current, 105 degree cap is not an expensive or exotic item unless you want it to be.
You might also check out the Chemicon KMH series.
