The latest information is that EI factory in Nis, Serbia, is going through the ownership transformation process (nice wording for selling out the factory by the government). This process should be finished very soon ... according to some sources from the factory, the production will be continued in a month or two ... April, May 2007. We will see whether that time schedule will be really realised, but it seems that the factory will continue the production of valves.

My understanding is that the acquiring party is Western Electric (Westrex) and it's anyone's guess as to what their plans are for this facility..
See here for the very terse statement to this effect: http://www.westernelectric.com/

According to my knowledge WE is not the only bidder ... it seems that there are several options. But there are some indications that are speaking for WE. One of them is that during bombardment of Serbia in 1999, the bombs were trown on: refugee camps near Nis, cluster bombs were trown in the center of the city killing some childreen and women, one train has been destroyed, .... (that was called "collateral damage") but the factory that was working for serbian army all the time, namely EI, was not heat not even once - although it is very large production complex near the city of Nis.
