It appears that EI is not currently making tubes at all. Some Serbian forum members have perhaps confirmed this.

I have looked at this site, and it may be nothing more than an electronic remnant now. (Hosting and domain registration paid for well in advance?)

Westrex Corp (Western Electric, maker of the WE300B, WE274 etc.) has announced the acquisition of EI assets.

There is a raging debate as to what this actually means over at Audio Asylum, and to a lesser extent here.

IMO Mostly lots of rumors and not a lot of substantial information to hang a hat on..

I have an announcement letter dated August 2006 from PM Components (who distributed Ei outside of Serbia and a few other countries) that says:

"PM regrets to advise all buyers of Ei product that new product manufacturer has now ceased."

It's not a rumor, it's fact.

The WE thing? Who knows, there's nothing concrete to go on as yet.

That's the first bit of concrete news we've had about EI, thanks for sharing it.

The notice on the WE website is pretty vague, but for the moment I take it at face value and assume that it is as it says. (Maybe I am naive?)

I no longer use much current production types in my projects so it will have little effect on me, but I do worry about what effect this and the ExpoPul problems may have on the MI industry and High End audio..

Any thoughts?

New Sensor is "holding the fort" against the Russian mobsters. May their success continue! The Saratov plant is (IMO) currently #1 in the world. That's something we can't afford to loose.

Considering all the good things from New Sensor lately, I wonder if it's Saratov or Sarnoff.

Hi Eli,
I really, really hope the long term prognosis is a good one. I'm not convinced (sadly) that with the shifting (quick) sands of Russian law and its waning democracy that New Sensor will necessarily prevail.

Western owned businesses seem to be having a pretty rough time there in general at the moment.
