Dear all,
I have concerned question to any one who are capable to give me any ideas for My set up like that: Tannoy Monitor gold 12" lancaster, Pre AMC1030s, CD player Teac10SE. Power assemblage set 300B? For my ear, I think that for vocal and tebble it is Ok but for Bass I think that it is not enought. Assemblage Set 300B w/rectifier Jan 5U4G, driver tube 6SN7WGT Jan, and 2x300B Audionote AV300B SL Thanks in advange Elegant |

May be worth trying a different amp that is P-P with a little more power than the set 300B makes....
Maybe a change or two of tubes could help, but I doubt if it would make a really drastic difference unless maybe some bias-points are a little flakey--Worth checking out the bias on the pre and driver tubes, Some makers like to run their pre/driver-tubes at rather low current, and adjusting it a little can make a huge difference, especially to the bass in some cases.... If you can, see if a P-P 300B or similar amp perks things up a little--The extra power available definately makes things a little more effortless.... This is just a very basic idea, as I dont know the make/model of the amp you quoted, but through experience of building SE and P-P amps, and running them through my set-up, the P-P always had a little extra when it came to rock-bottom bass, while all other system parts inc. speakers remained the same.... To my ear, a lot of SE amps seem a little 'soft'or lacking on the bass, while making mids and highs come alive, especially some of the more 'budget' ones, with less than great out-put transformers... Guess its more a personal taste thing.....The SET type amp has a great following, but to me, the SET just doesnt do it, as I like a good well defined bass.... My personal fave is a 6C33C Circlotron OTL, which seems to capture most of the 'best' in both SE and P-P 'Conventional Transformer' amp sound---BUT that is a whole different game of soldiers!

Perhaps your output transformers are to blame...which OPTs' are you using, a changeout of OPTs' will bring your bass alive.
Another question is your choice of loudspeaker, is the Tannoy really capable of a true deep bass? My take on full-rangers is that they really cannot reproduce down to a viable 30hz. While full-rangers can bring out crystal clear vocals & the like, they cannot extend down to say 30hz....making them very narrow in frequency response.(60-13K)hz. ______________________________________Rick........ ... |

It's the same situation as this thread. The folks who were behind Assemblage are now at Parts Connexion.
