For ETF06 we made a diy Triode. It was a copy of the first triode by Lee DeForest in 1906.
![]() This video shows how it was made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_eLO0exato BTW don't try this at home .. Emile |

Very neat!
It reminds me of a few years ago, when I had do build an inexpensive rig to test display screen phosphors. A cheap ECC83 was cut open and used for an electron source (I tried filament bulbs but they were too fragile, and the light interfered with optical measurements). Cylindrical beam forming electrodes were made from sections of a drinks can. This directed electrons at a test screen held at B+. All parts were contained in the chamber of a high vacuum system. It was fun to see the phosphor glow as the system was powered up. It worked remarkably well, and we obtained some decent results! Ed |

Did you notice the venue? It was Eindhoven. Philips made GOOD tubes there in the past. If only they would do it again.

The triodes worked .. and sounded pretty good as well!
Specs: mu = 10 Ri > 100K (!) The low S was probably due to large distances in tube and gas remains. You can read a review of ETF06 here: http://www.6moons.com/industryfeatures/etf06/etf.html |

I thought it was funny when they tested the anode with high voltage. They said that this was the dangerous part, yet there is a guy about 6 inches away from the tube looking right at it. Mind you he had glasses on, but not safety glasses.
Fun video.

Yes You can try also at home.
Look at this experiment done by a crazy Italian diyer in the del pentium1 75MHz ancient times (as He said). http://www.audiofaidate.it/forum/top...?TOPIC_ID=1797
