Default My first audio proyect

Hi guys.

I´m new at this forum, but I´ve read a lot of threads here. I´m looking for a good proyect for a beginer. Two years ago I made a tube amp for my guitar and sound great, and now I decided for do the audio amp.

I found this page http://boozhoundlabs.com/howto/ does somebody make this amp? what´s it sounds? it´s a good start point for DIY proyects?

excuse me for my bad english, is an "spanghish" I´m from Madrid (Spain)

Thanks and great job.
Oki.

My suggestion would be to aim to build a good preamp first... it can be valve or solidstate. These projects are normaly not too hard and will serve as good refresher.

To it you could add good volume control and input selector maybe even a remote.... Once you have a nice preamp like that it is easy to try out diffirent amps and not have to worry about getting good components for all of them, as you reuse the preamp.

Like most amps based on the cheap topologies of the old days (this looks very similar to the circuit used in many inexpensive record players of the 1950s), the performance will not be fantastic, but it looks like it would be a very nice way to get started. It is well documented, lots of pictures and descriptions, and the parts are not very expensive so you can make mistakes without financial pain. I'd say "go for it!"

BTW, I made my first visit to Madrid this year. What a fun city! Very nice outdoor music on the streets.

Not wishing to spoil things but I notice the volume control in that lavout is very close to one of the two 6V6 OP tubes. This tube can get hot, so be careful not to burn your fingers if you build it that way! (Personally speaking, I would put the volume control in a different position.)

Build a pre-amp / linestage first, .. you will learn the basics of operating points etc.

Then learn to modify it.

Then use what you've learnt in building an integrated or powerstage.

Okinawa,

Take a look at the "El Cheapo" project here.

While building an "El Cheapo" is a tough challenge as a 1st project, it is not an overreach. Plenty of help is available to get you past the rough spots. "El Cheapo" is an "integrated" amp; so, you will not have to build a preamp.

Hi,

I believe the most current schematic for Eli's 'El Cheapo' is on page 18 of the linked thread. I built this amplifier from this schematic - with quite a bit of help along the way - and have been VERY happy with the results.

Scott.
