Kofi Annan in: "Seven-Pound Mono Amp"

[Kofi Annan]

Finalized a seven-pound mono amplifier yesterday. Loud, LOUD L O U D sound for a mono amp and no distotion whatsoever. Its very small-- fits in the crook of your arm-- but it does get awfully hot.

Any advice on further modifications to get the gain down would be much appreciated. Just can't seem to turn it down low eneough to avoid ear-splitting volume levels.

yup definitely not (yet) a DIY project.

be advised however, that the unit's power consumption will increase over time - and if you think it's loud now, wait until it's fully broken in (18-30months)

Just be glad you only 'built' a mono-block.

If you ended up with a stereo unit, there would be even more cross-talk to contend with.

This little cute Do-It-Yourselves amp has the biggest WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor), yet you must be careful - a lot of microphonics, self-oscillating and self exciting. And you will have hard times to find mute switch. Mine is 18 months and I find the location of the switch changing every day. And beware - no tools!

You have 13 years to live. At that point (or close to it) life as you know it will cease to exist. You will be instructed on the limits of your ability to control your new one's world (and by extension, yours). You will survive (probably) - if you can adapt to this new reality.

It will all come around again, maybe 5-8 years later. Of course, you will be permanently altered by this process. You can't fight it big daddy, enjoy it.
