Tube Noob question

Hi there,

I'm putting together a tube buffer, and suddenly my mind goes blank

Which way is the tube viewed for the pin-out?
Is pin 1 bottom left when the tube is viewed from the top or when the socket is viewed from the bottom

Pinout is always determined while looking at the underside of the socket. For Octals, the first pin is the one to the immediate right of the keyway. The successive pins are numbered in the clockwise direction.

For the seven, eight, nine, ten pin minis, novars, and duodecars, the first pin is to the right of the gap. Again, the rest go in a clockwise direction.

You also might want to take a good LQQK at the sockets. Frequently the pins are numbered for you.

Just as well I asked!

I was looking at the socket from the top side, gap in the pins to the bottom, and thinking that they read clockwise from bottom left!

Warming up the soldering iron again.........
