CCS better in plate or cathode

Forgive me if this has been answered before, but what is the difference between adding a CCS to the plate or cathode of a triode? I would like to get some more gain from a 417A and the IXYS chip looks like the way to go. Putting it in the cathode would dercrease the dissapation and probably not require a heatsink. Any comments?
