dist on clean tone

i just bought a sovtek tube amp and it checked out at the store and i plugged it in at band practice , didn't go above 1/4 volume, i get it home and theres distorion on the clean and theres cackling and volume cuts out, i opened up the back and looked at the tubes , one was really hot and there other barily warm. could sumone plz tell me whatz wrong w/ my amp?

You need a Solid State amplifier.
They are more solid.

Malfuctioning Tube Amp

I am not a tube-man but solid state but I would replace the tube that is barely warm or both.
Also spray the volume pot with some contactcleaner.
This is my best guess from a innocent solid state man.

Hi,

For starters,just swap the tubes around and see if the problem moves with the tubes.

If it stays at the same spot then there probably a cathode resistor,faulty,cold solder joint or wrong resistor value.

Ditto Elso and Frank's suggestions. Could also be a bad connection in a tube socket.

i had the tech at the place i bought it from plug it in , they said it was the pots and that they just needed to be cleaned, i am very happy!! yay!!!!
