Hi tubeholics If i understand your different point of view, please tell me why Tektronix and HP for example, would have been using so many regulators in their PSUs ?? (especially in toobed scopes) . These have DC to several tenth Mc/s banwidth ? cheers

Ah, well you see, the chap in stores thought design wanted ten thousand 6080, whereas they only really wanted ten. Much the same happened to Audio Research, only they accidentally ordered ten thousand 6DJ8. The design departments of both companies had to justify the purchase, or be fired, so oscilloscopes acquired regulated power supplies and AR preamplifiers became overly complicated.

(The same stores chap came out of retirement and got a part-time job at Conrad-Johnson just as they were designing a new valve line stage...)
