I think it has to do with the resonant frequency of the choke. You want a flat response over the audio range.

Plate chokes are usually used for audio gain stage applications or RF, IF radio stages...
SO the inductance must be large enough for lowest frequency of interest, which is related the the plate resistance.... As the Inductive reactance= the plate resistance at the -3dB low frequency Pole... Then your winding capacitance must be low enough so to properly pass the high frequency content.... A power choke is a inductor used in the power supply for filtering the ripple in the power supply rail....It's properties are not as stringent as the plate choke...but still you need proper amount of inductance to reduce the current ripple....It is also used in conjunction with a filter capacitor to lower the voltage ripple. Hi Guys,
Thanks for the advice. Aside from the high inductance value, I do not see any other differences besides the the much higher price over power chokes. Thanks again |
