I came here to lurk because, while I have the greatest respect for valve amps I know little about them. I am going for an interview as Production Engineer in a company which makes.... valve amps.
Worthwhile doing some searches and reading the wiki ..... which consists of one sentence ;
"Tubes can be used to build a pleasant amplifier, which I know to be true. I finished my first tube amp project last night. 8 watts per side of nice clean sound, and a room heater, too!"

Hi Pbassred
I am going to suggest (aside from reading and learning here) that you purchase a pair of books by Morgan Jones. The first is "Valve Amplifiers" available at Amazon.com. It's an excellent book that is easy reading. There is a companion book to that that deals with building them. You will see it also at Amazon. Another book that is a bit heavier going is RDH 4. You can download it, but I find the paper version easier. That is long out of print, but reprints may be available. Hamfests are another good source.
This would be an excellent investment in your career.

The other is "building valve amplifiers".
I can think of no other books as well suited for a cram course in modern tube amplifier design and construction.
I also recommend Allen Wright's "Preamp Cookbook". It is actually more about attitude than the nitty-gritty, but a very good foil to the Jones' books.
Both these fellows are brilliant BTW. I've only met Morgan on-line, but have met Allen in the flesh.

The Wiki is a member tool for a member to be able to take the essence of a thread -- or something of particular interest -- and create an article that has a useful, and compact, tidbit of audio lore. I guess us tube guys have been lazy in that respect.
