Default valve preamp

Probably asked here before although a search didnt produce much..BUT im after reccomendations on a simple first valve preamp to build.
I am currently finishing my power amp (transistor amp using some autona modules, having some ground loop problems..bad hum through the speakers) and yeah will bve building a preamp next.
I have seen designs with around 10 components a channel this is what im after.
Somehing simple i can add to and modify as i please. Am currently reading up on this and would rpefer to go about someone else's before i design my own.
Thanks

To get the ball rolling: 5687 pre.

Maybe you should be more precise about what you need/want. In the meantime you could google as well. Lots of stuff out there.

Thanks for the speedy reply, thats exactly what im after. I guess i could have figured that out myself via my reading up and not bothered you. Interesting things these valves, seem to be alot less complicated than transsitor amps too.

btw for other suggestions im after a preamp to drive this 100w power amp i have just built, would probably need bass treble controls inout selectro and volume/balance etc i can wire myself. Thinking about it more its hard to tell what i want, just a good first project to get me p to scratch with valves. And having another look dosent have to be that simple. Thats just driving audio through valves what would that sound like? IS it really that simple because i know with a transistor amp you cant always just stick an audio signal and some voltage through transistors. I know with mosfets you can.

Hi,

I was in your exact position around a year ago.
I built the Aikido tube preamplifier from John Broskie, It is very easy to understand and build (you can do it point ot point without fuss).
I have been using it for some time now using 12AU7's and 12AT7's and it sounds really good. You can use almost any triode tube in this preamp circuit (most of which will be better than my choice) just by altering the cathode resistor values.
It has the advantage of theoretically cancelling supply noise and some passive tone controls can easily be added in front of it, (although i planned to add tone controls i have left it alone becasue it sounds great as is).

Hope this helps
