Hello, What books on tube amp design would you recomend to a "Blushing virgin" like myself? Although Iv'e farted arround with audio gear for almost 40 years, Iv'e never built an amp from scratch. I built a Dynaco amp and preamp from a kit back in the early 70's so I know my way arround a soldering iron and multimeter. Beyond that, I,m "Koko the chimp boy " ! I favor amps which use el34's, kt88's, 6550's etc. as they are the AA batteries of the tube world. They work "real good" and you can get them anywhere!50,70 watts is the power range I'm thinking about. Any help would be appreciated.

The RCA Radiotron Designers Handbook is comprehensive and respected. There is a version from the mid 1950's available in PDF form, and a version from I think 1930 that is less complete but covers older valves.
If you want a web reference, try http://www.tubecad.com . (great backissue collection) I think this guy is really in the know. |

Morgan Jones's book for sure. Also the companion volume, "Building Valve Amplifiers." RDH is comprehensive but difficult; that would be a good book to tackle once Jones has you speaking the language.
