Welcome aboard, you won't be disappointed. And while you're at it, why not make it a headphone amp and preamp in one?
www.tubecad.com is a great place to be. Headphone amps and all. |

Hi Nando
Other great source for headphone amplifiers is http://headwize.com/projects/index.htm There is even a special forum, dn't remember the name, that is all about 'portable' audio, tubed headphone amplifiers included. Erik |

Yes, don't hesitate to ask if you need information. I am also planning to build a headphone amp soon and I was thinking about a variant of the Morgan Jones design as shown in the Headwize site, using a White cathode follower. Only problem is, it uses 6DJ8 tubes, which, I understand, are not very linear. I've heard it said that there are better tubes for audio.

simple is a great approach and headphones allow you to do just that!
A low rp triode and an SE output transformer is all you need! ECC99, 417/5824, 6c45p, etc and turns ratios between 10- 20 should do fine. |
