Default safety fuse

Where is it safer to put a .5 to 1A fuse in the center tap of the transformer to ground or 2 fuse at the plates in a full wave rectifier tube to protect the power transformer in case of rectifier tube failure or smoothing caps shorts. Does it affect the sound quality?
