A possible good source for steel chassis

I was at work today after upgrading the alarm system at a local business. As I sat in my van finishing the paperwork, I was staring at the steel can for the old panel. It measures 24x18x4 inches, and has a removable front cover. The sides have knockouts that are the right size for a cable clamp for the power cord, and the bottom has no holes in it of any type. I realized I can use the botton of it for the top of the chassis.

All I need is a little paint and I can have a nice stamped steel chassis fo a project.

So if you need a steel chassis for next to nothing, you might try to visit one of your local alarm companies, and enquire if you can get a steel can from an old alarm panel if they have any laying around (they might be happy to find a way to dispose of them).
