I do have to get at my Mark II version with the bigger OPTs.

Bas, except for the lack of bass (expected with my OPTs) it is a decent sounding little amp. here is mine...

One of the readers of my site, built one, and later subbed in a set of Lundahl 2A3 OPTs (making it a $405 amp ) and said it wasn't all that far behind the 2A3... the single stage i'm sure plays a role.

My sample size is much larger (n>50). Most common are EL84 SE by a fair ways. Other NA ones have 6V6 SE & PP, some EL84 PP, 6BM8 & ECL86 PP, 50C5 and 50EH5 is actually fairly uncommon. German ones also have ELL80 & EL95 SE & PP, ECLL800 PP, and i have one TFK EL84 PP. Occasionaly i'll see SE or PP 6AQ5. Japanese tape decks seem most often to have SE 6AQ5 or 6BM8. The Sony TapeCorder 500 has a lovely 6AQ5 SE with (i believe) Tamura output transformers. These have a 600 ohm tap for driving the heads which would be perfect for that subwoofer amp fed or to make a preamp with serious grunt.

Cool Here's my piece....

Well, here's a few pictures of my latest project.

It's a 6L6GC ULPP amp now, but will replace those with KT88's when they are worn-out. I use a single 6J5G triode at the input coupled to a longtail ECC99 as phase-splitter. The PP stage is UL and kathode biased. My dad was so kind to make me the nice oak-wood chassis :-)

Greetings,

Kathode Ray.

Looks like on your new amp you have the output transformers oriented differently with respect to each other?

Hi Bas,

Indeed, it's a delay for the +B voltage, since i'm using SS recitifiers.

Ray.

Middenmeer hey, that's not too far from Heerhugowaard.....

Let me guess the first one was built with Klare stuff and your second one with AE Europe stuff.

Nope..it's right around the corner. The guy that winds Klare's transformers also live in Heerhugowaard.
