• WARNING: Tube/Valve amplifiers use potentially LETHAL HIGH VOLTAGES.
Building, troubleshooting and testing of these amplifiers should only be

This is my Tubelab Simple SE which i have just finished.

The configuration is as follows:

Hammond 374BX Power transformer
Hammond 193H 5H 200ma Choke
80 UF 500volt motor run cap
Edcor GXSE15-8-5k output transformers

RCA 6L6GC output tubes
GE ECC81
and a Zeninth "5U4GB" rectifier tube (have not been able to get a 5AR4 locally yet which doesn't break the bank!)

It is wired up for Triode, and feedback at this stage.

I have built the PC board up using the standard components on Georges web site.

Photos below.

Had a few issues with fuses blowing, but thanks to this forum solved this quite quickly.

Very happy with the end result, and are now looking for another project!

very nice, afrench ... looks like powder coated muMetal housings, no?:

Hi, thanks for the comments!

OPT covers are just 5mm MDF (about 1/4 inch) glued together, and painted using a Hammer finish paint!

Am thinking about painting the other transformers to match - the factory finish is not that good - but this means not being able to use the amp for a night or two!

One stage OTL Headphones ampl. with wonderfulll russian triode 6C45П /6S45P, Ri=1.15 kohm to 300 ohm Zenheizer HD580/, Amazing sound from 1 tube and 6 passive elements per channel. Ia=20 ma, Uinput = 1,5 v.
Grid res. to ground 1 mohm, cathode resistor 75 ohm/1wt /parallel cap.
1000 mkf - Nichikon, -U=1,5 v./, anode res. 3,3 kohm/5 wt. PS - 180 v.
Output cap 100 mkf/450v- Elna. /Res. output to ground- 15 kohm/.
Volume control - 10 kohm. PS - rect diodes BYV26E, CLCLC filter.
If use 2 tube in parallel /Ri = 550 om to 300 ohm HPh.- very good stick,
and great sound!/.

Like the MDF covers... They look cool with the Hammer finish!

I have built some wooden covers for OPTs too!
Just need some extra care with the painting.

If you're power transformer don't warm too much, you can paint it with the same finish. I don't think it will stink.

Nice vintage look Azazello!

audiomanics, good job. Pro!

Hallo to all tubebuilders!
This is my first post on diyaudio, and this is my second brand new amplifier!

technical data: SE, UL, 6L6WGB, 250V, total reservoir capacitance 1400uF R-C smoothing filter , 180ohm cathode resistor (for -14V autobias), 2,5K OPT, coupling capacitors MKT, 12AX7 driver, 22K NFB (light), star grounding at the screw of 12AX7 noval socket, wooden box from IKEA (p/n 600.512.99 - 3.00 euros).

possitve impressions: powerfull for domestic use, pleasant, excellent mids, nice lows, nice looking (?), compact size.

negative impressions: some 100Hz noise (choke is necessary for up to 1400uF - at least), strange highs, absolutely dangerous constraction! purelly Electroshocked!

I just finished a SE amp based on Mikael Abdellah's KT88 design.

I am using Sovtek 6L6WXT+ at 60 mA into Edcor GXSE 15-6-5k output
transformers. I added a cathode bias trim for each tube by putting
470 ohms in parallel with a 2W 200 ohm potentiometer. The testpoints
are across 1 ohm to measure the current.

It is selectable between anode and UL, although I have found myself
enjoying the UL more at the moment.

This was made entirely with (cheap) hand tools.
