Default Motorrun caps ... GND side?

Folks,

I just received a box full of oil filled caps ASC 100uF/370VAC. I need them for my next amp's PSU.

But UH-OH? What's the preferred lug (if any) to be connected to ground (outer foil)?

Ciao
Gianluca

It matters

Here is a post dealing with the subject:
sexing caps

I sacrificed one of my Russian caps to determine outer foil. At least I'm sure now.

So Frank, do I have to connect the outer foil to "ground" or to the lower dc potential side or it is the opposite?

Outer foil to GND.

Thanks John. Quite an easy way to find the cap's sex. I did miss that thread ...

Hello John - I have a stack of those russian Teflon caps - do please tell me which is the outer foil? the problem is that the sign on the cap is at 90 degrees so it's not clear. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Andy

Hi,

Outer foil to GND.
In the case of PSU filter caps consider the foil side as the - sign.

In case of a coupling cap consider the foil as analogous to the shield of a coax cable where you'd daisy chain the foils from one stage to the next.

Cheers,
