Default What To Do?

Hi All!

Merry Xmas!

I was at my gran's house today, and she gave me the following tubes that belonged to my grandad:

6FS5 x7
ECG82 x4
EF86 x2
ECH81 x2
QQV03-10 x2
ECL80 x1
6SL7GT x2
12BH7A x4

Does anyone have any suggestions for me to do with them? Any circuit diagrams?

Thanx,
Werner

The 6SL7s could go into a phono stage. Look here.

The EF86 is the voltage gain tube in Mullard circuit power amps.

The 12BH7s could be used in a Foreplay style line stage.

6FS5 x7
Interesting VHF shadow grid pentode (technically a hexode with internally connected and aligned grid 2, to reduce screen grid current). Definitely not one of the more popular tubes but I am pretty sure it can be useful.

ECG82 x4
This I would expect to be an ECL82 also known as 6BM8, triode-output pentode, very popular. You can build small SE amps with it, 10W PP amps in pentode or ultralinear mode, drivers for larger tubes, even line stages. A search on this forum will give you dozens of schematics.

EF86 x2
The standard low noise pentode, that also makes a VERY good triode when connected that way. Again, multiple uses - a very popular tube.

ECH81 x2
Triode - heptode used as oscillator and mixer in radios, limited use due to common cathode. However, you may benefot from some research I am doing right now into this kind of tube, to see whether it can be connected as a usefull pentode or triode. Even with a common cathode it could be useful in a variety of applications in audio. The heptode in this tube can be connected in 3 different ways as a pentode, and 5 different ways as a triode, all with different vharacteristics, so there's bound to be something useful in this

QQV03-10 x2
Very neat double tetrode with common screen grid, could be used as an output of a small PP amp.

ECL80 x1
Triode-pentode designed to be used as a small SE amplifier (about 1W, limited use due to common cathode for the triode and pentode).

6SL7GT x2
High mu double triode in octal, many uses - a search will pop up many circuits with it.

12BH7A x4
Very useful dual triode that can be used in many ways, including as a small PP amp, line stage, driver etc, etc.

All in all, you have a decent collection of usable tubes! You would have to be a bit creative about using the 6FS5 and ECH81 and to a degree the ECL80, but I would definitely not throw any of them out.
