good 6SN7 is almost lab tube, but has to be supplied with very high Anode voltage
(even higher PS voltage...) Lets say more than 300 of Va around -13V Ug and cca 10mA
to give awesome results. extremely linear...
Please take a look at the datas
Just little bit higher capacitances but there is no problem, just put the right value of input R or pot
which is 25K (22K) or less. persuming the stage before is low impedance source.
cheers

Thanks guys. It was a real pain to drill 67 holes of all sizes through that piece. It was a bigger pain to figure out all the sources of hum, but I finally got it dead quiet. It sounds great.

great phono, thanks Jim!

People are going to love me for opening up this antique thread but I just had to.

I seem to file away all the interesting schematics that I would like to build at some time or another and I got to thinking about the Octal Cornet Phono preamp and I think I want to try my hand at it. Note, It will be my first phono preamp.

Anyway I dug up an old schematic but I don't see the B+ voltage so I'm going to assume its around 380VDC? Is this correct?

Also it looks like the first two stages are running about 2mA each and the final at 14mA?

Please do correct me if I am mistaken. I would like to obtain the grid, plate and cathode voltages if I could before I set forth to make it.

Default Hagerman Cornet 2 B+ voltage

My schematic shows 330 VDC on the plate of the output cathode follower

You mentioned Cornet 2? I'm after info for the cornet 1 that uses octal tubes. In what I just found I show 325vdc after R2.

They are the same circuit, just different board layout. The cornet 2 made the CCS on the cathode follower standard, where the cornet 1 had (I think) 30k R on the 12au7 follower. B+ 330v on follower, 300v on the 12ax7's, both versions.
