I have a copy of an old article on using the 6AU6 as a triode with the plate grounded (as a shield). Screen is connected as plate. If I can dig it up I'll post it on my web page.

I would also add the 6CB6A. This small signal pentode works very well as a DC amplifier for a series pass regulator, and a CCS. The characteristics look pretty good for use as a small signal amp (haven't tried that yet).

6AQ5A: basically a down rated 6V6 with very similar characteristics (including some secondary emission kink, so keep the Vpk up). Works well in triode configuration, and as a series pass regulator.

The 6AQ5A also has 1/2 dozen or more variants - availability is super

I'd like to add to the 6CB6A as a largeish signal driver. Need a little pentode (or tioded) to push along some 6L6's in AB2? Try some 6CB6A's after your phase splitter.

It also makes a nice tube as the top section in a mu-stage. Trioded or pentode, it'll sound good (microphonics depend on brand) and the high h-k voltage simplifies the filament supply (no need for floating filaments with 320V or less Va)
