Hello!
I recently got my first taste of tube amp goodness... Now i'd like to build something small , around 8+ watts per channel. I don't want to have a very complicated power supply as i'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to playing with mains Does what i'm asking for exist? Thanks! |

Poindexter's "Machine" is a NICE 8 WPC piece and a line stage is not needed. However, the "Machine" has a B+, a B-, and a C- rail. That sort of PSU is an important part of a truly elegant unit.
I'm scoping out an 8 WPC amp at a less elegant level than Poinz's "Machine", but I SHAMELESSLY borrow some of his ideas. "El Cheapo" does not have a C- supply, as it uses cathode bias instead of adjustable fixed bias. The B+ and B- rails are present. If the voltage of tube B+ supplies gives you pause for thought, maybe you should build a hybrid amp with "sand" finals and 6GM8 based voltage amplification. The 6GM8 is a low voltage relative of the 6DJ8 that works at rail voltages seen in SS gear. AMOF, 28 V. or so is as high as you can go on a 6GM8 plate. Poindexter's Site "El Cheapo" Project
