I built a pair of PP45 amps with a direct coupling pre to phase splitter and used a shunt regulated B+ power supply. The regulated B+ without having to be processed thru a series tube or transistor should be superior. The amp (monolocks) outperform a few well regarded 45 SET designs per new owner. With 100dB efficient speakers, it is not the higher power making the difference.

Thanks for the datasheet. I’ll over this week have have a trawl through all the many posts at Audio Asylum on this tube.
Though I didn’t know the volts are that high. ~ Space sure can cramp a diyer audio person, I suffer that too ~ Still not one 300B SE circuit good for dynamics/ rock (used with appropriate speakers)??? KYW? audiousername? Frank? analog sa? SY? Cheers |

I like your tip of industrial control transformers. I now need to decide GM 70 (845/ 211??) and watts. Cheers |

cheapest if you go for PP (or PPP) as the trannies are way cheapper than propr SE's.
you could go for GM70PP (big power) GU50 (in parallel can get about any power you'd like, specially in pentode). I'd say first decide budget, then check trannies in good price, then decide. I personally use a GM70 SE and get 45W and a lot of slamm. Never run out of power |
