Which Amperex ECC88 is the best?

I am going to buy a pair of Amperex ECC88 for my tube DAC. But there are so many versions of Amperex and I am confused.

Ordinary
Bugle Boy
Orange Globe
A Frame

A Frame seems to be the best as it is the most expensive version. Which one is the next best?

You're right, there is a confusing array of Amperex versions! (And that's not even counting the sometimes credible looking fakes, either!

)

I've only heard some white-label bugle-boys and some 'orange globes' myself, so I'm hardly any expert that can advise you here. And whilst I'm a firm believer that different manufacturers' individual tubes do indeed have a sonic signiature; very often the circuit they're placed in will modify this; Sometimes greatly (and sometimes less so).

However one of the most comprehensive reviews of the 6DJ8 family that I've seen was by Joe S. You can find a copy here.
