Default tube pin numbers

I am a complete newb...
The pin numbers on a tube diagram, do you read the tube from looking at the the base or from the top of the glass looking down?

I can't find this answer anywhere. I am sure it is from looking at the base, however I have OCD bad! And I need to be sure!
Thanks!

you are correct - pin numbers increase clockwise looking at pin-side, not tube-side

Another tip that helps with OCD is just to take a hard look inside the tube. If it's got one, it is usually easy to see where the shield is wired to.
