Transformer question

Hi all!

I just received this morning the iron for building Mikael's KT88 amp.
Huge transformers and choke.
But, they are in raw metal - a beautifull almost brass like color - should i paint them or no need to, as i'm affraid of shocking hazard?

A bit o/t, as for the layout, can the choque be orineted on the same direction as the mains tranny or laying down at 90º? I found nothing pretty much conclusive while searching.

The laminations and outer covers (if they have covers) are all at ground, no shock hazard.

If the transformers are open ended - no bells, there is still little hazard, as the outer layer is insulation.

You can paint them. I prefer a Lacquer over an Enamel. The Lacquer is a thinner coating, better for heat transfer to the air. You can mask off parts you don't want to be painted too... if it has end bells (covers) they come off and can be painted separately.

You may find that there can be induced hum from the EM field from both a choke and a transformer, depending on the circuit and the physical relationship with the tubes. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

You can put the choke or transfomer in almost any relationship to the chassis.
