Thanks to all those who gave me learning and advice on this thread - I'd like to make a simple 50 amplifier
I've completed the amplifier and here it is with Sylvania 10Y ![]() and with Cunningham UX-250 ![]() Again many thanks! Hey Alexandar, it is still simple: 5842 -> 50/10

Congratulations! It's very nice. Perhaps worthy of going in the Photo Gallery thread.
The W-Th filament of the 10Y looks so much better though!

thanks guys... now my 45 amp with Tamura transformer needs some overhaul because sonically, it's left behind when compared to my 5010 amp

Hi Arnold,
Nice amp, I sifted thru the other thread, so which schematic did you use? Thanks Raja |

Hi Raja,
Here is the updated schematic. What is not shown is the TDO hum balance pots for the 50/10Y filaments that I installed last night. Due to limitations of my power transformer, the Lundahl LL1648, the voltages of the power tube and driver tube (5842) are starved. If I'd had the choice, I will be sticking to 7.5V filaments for the 50/10Y. However, both power tubes offer glorious mids. With the 10Y a bit more magical, subjectively. The 50 though is a power performer, the weight, dynamics and detail are there and can do justice to dance music extremely well. Both tubes offer emotional reproduction of classical music. Should you pursue this project, I believe you can do better than this Good luck! |
