Replacing Valves

How often should I replace the valves on my Beard P100 amp.Its recently been out of action for a quick capacitor change and interested if and how often I should replace the valves. (PS the capacitor had to be changed due to the other fizzing on top by the contacts- should this alone jusitfy a replacement of valves?)

How old are they?

The output valves get worn faster than the input/driver ones. The two commercial valve amps I have are both running on their original valves - one is from the early sixties and the other is from '57...

So the valves do not generally get worn that fast :)

But the sound quality may improve if you replace the output valves. If they are not an expensive type, just buy a set and try.

Best regards,
