SE PX4 or PX25 amp, anyone built one????????

Hi All,

I am considering a SE amp with one of these dodo-esque tubes as my next project.

Has anyone else built one?

Am I completely mad??

I have searched here and gooooooggley and a few other forums, etc. and despite these tubes being highly revered, there isn't actually that much out there.
I'm not saying there isn't any, just not as much as say, on 300B amps.

Any thoughts most welcome

The simple answer is that current production doesn't sound anything like the original and NOS is quite a bit more expensive than most 300B. Otoh, it's a marvelous tube and quite easy to drive. I lived for about a year with a pair of Osrams. If 5-7W is enough for you it's difficult to imagine any 300B getting even close soundwise.

powertriode, you might direct a question to Brian at DIYHiFiSupply, who sells a TJ (Chinese) version of the PX-25. FWIW, Art Audio and Wavelength both make production amplifiers using this tube---I'm sure the proprietors would comment on the tube. Also FWIW, I'm currently constructing a two-stage amp using a PX-25 as driver and a 300B output. I'll use direct coupling via the stacked supply concept ... might get me just enough power to drive a pair of loudspeakers to audibility.

I can hardly imagine something better overall came along?
Granted, a PX25 isn't perfect but it sure has more of that magic than most any other tube I ever heard.......

Both my SF and ProAcs greatly prefer working with the PP 2A3

I wish i had a quad PX25...
