Just wondering if anyone has built the Consonance Amps/Preamp from China, and has a review, especially from a cost/performance perspective.
I have seen other kits online, but am not sure what factors to base my purchase on. I recently read a review of the Opera Consonance Reference 6.6 and it got glowing reviews...(same company, anyways...)
Any input would be helpful...by the way, the URL to the amp kit i am considering is

Byron: I definitely think you should go for the Consonance Amp. I don't know anything about the kits, but I just picked up a Consonance 99 integrated amp about a month ago and it has led to a reawakening of my interest in music. I last owned tubes in the 80s (ARC preamp and amp) and went thru 3 encarnations of solid state equipment. I bought the Consonance on the recommendation of a friend, who's ear I highly respect, and am just blown away. I had forgotten how much I loved the sound of tubes. For a succinct description of how my last 10 years or so listening has gone, read the intro to dyihifisupply's web site at: http://www.diyhifisupply.com/index.html They may be the competition to the web site you referenced in your posting, but the site makes for good reading and, anyway, they are in Hong Kong. Now I understand why I usually left the room to listen to music from elsewhere in the house. Now I am planted midway between my speakers for the duration. Though I may be able to afford some of the second mortgage priced systems, I have always sought out the highest possible quality of sound to price quotient possible. The Consonance 99 amp at 1200. or so is an incredible value and I can only imagine that the Ella kit at twice the power and half the price has to be one of the best values on the planet. Before this amp, I would never have thought of going into a forum like this; I just got here trying to find out as much as I could about Consonance. Happy listening! -JN Liu

DIY Cable/DIY HiFi
The DIY Cable site has worked out a deal with DIY HiFiSupply in Hong Kong to import their amps for easier sale in the U.S. So there basically the same amps. The only bad thing is DIY Cable is not sourcing parts or stocking anything in the U.S. They are drop shipping from the Hong Kong site. You won't get it any cheaper or faster regardless of who you buy it from. This is directly from the horses mouth, so to speak, at DIY Cable. Perhaps down the road, if it becomes profitable enough for him, he may start stocking kits.
