I have a Fischer X-101-B and the balance/stereo blendig pot is not functioning. I want just a balance control. Has anyone used the same control pot, bipassing the blending part of the pot and had a good working amp? This is the only problem with the amp and while I plan on using it only for myself I don't wish to ruin its value $$ wise and as a great piece of vintage gear.

Hi David,
I'm not entirely sure whether this will help, but I've included a cut from the X101C schematic below showing how Fisher did it in that model. I've lost my B schematic. Also note, I don't have either of these units, only the schems. If you're worried about resale value, you could always modify it to say, the pic I posted, keep the original part and restore it later if neccessary. I've made a few mods to my 800B, and I've kept all the original parts in a bag, so I could 'restore' it later to the 40yo untouched but decrepid state I bought it in. I doubt I ever will though as it sounds much better now and doesn't hum. Most of these units are easy to work on being P2P wiring with no crappy PCBs to flake on you at the first hint of a soldering iron. If I ever find the B schem I'll send it to you if you'd like, but I think I had it before the virus wiped my HD late 2001. The full C schem is at http://www.one-electron.com/FC_Consumer.html HTH Cheers |
