The RCA 1644 tube is a 12L8. Not a 12L6. The two sections share a common cathode.
They were probably designed to be used in the output stage of radio receivers.

yeah, it's a 12L8.
shared cathode and screen, so ideal for PP. but, unfortunately it is rated only 2,5w Pa, each section.. so flea power, unless you use your whole set in PPP

Hi all,
Just searched up this thread. I have been toying with the idea of building a two stage direct coupled 6080 amp for ages now. The idea is to hang the pentode driver off the finals and direct couple a LTP into a differential PP output. I have been searching for a suitable driver which would allow me to build this as a two valve per channel design. I was toying with compactrons, but they are a pain because they never caught on in Europe and so the bases and valves are hard to come by. So I was almost going to give up when I did a painstaking search of the valve lists and came up with the 12L8-GT. Seems that this is almost perfect for the job and the curves don't look to bad. So my question is, has anyone ever used them for anything, and if so how do they sound. Also has anyone got a source for them in Europe? Shoog |
