Hi guys!
I have made some line preamplifiers using 5687 tube and grounded cathode configuration. Also tried grounded cathode as first stage and cathode follower as second stage. Still have to try 6N1P tube as grounded cathode to see if I like the sound of that tube. What I know for sure is that I like the sound of the one stage line preamplifier that doesn't cost a fortune to make. The question is that I would like to make one stage preamplifier better than grounded cathode. So I have decided to make mu follower with 5687 as lower tube and maybe penthode as the top tube (maybe 6P1P). Also I think that it is not a bad idea to use Gary Pimm's CCS and 5687. Did anyone tried this one (or with 6N1P)? I would like if someone has some experience with this one so he could explain/help me how this would work and what values should I put in those CCS from Gary so it would actually work. Thanks Best regards daniel

Hi Sparkle,
Here is a current source that might interest you: http://pmillett.addr.com/current_source.htm Cheaper than a pentode source and performs as well if not better. At low current only a small heatsink is needed. Cheers.

G, thanks - that is a nice link... Yesterday when I have posted first mail in this thread I have been reading Mr. Pimm's rev.3 ccs. I think I will use this version (or rev.4) rather than the device suggested by mr. Millett......
Thanks again. regards daniel BTW, is there anyone that has some informations about 5687 or 6n1p with ccs from mr. Pimm. |
