the 12V6GT and the 6SL7 can be used to make a nice little single ended amp but I'm not familiar with the rest of them. Surely Eli, Frank or SY ( not necessarily in that order
) can help you with some of the other ones.

Thanks for your reply. That would be a good starting point for a next project of mine. Hope to make use of those tubes for audio projects in the near future. |

Hi,
Unless you really want to put them to use in audio applications most of the tubes on the list are either for TV use or were used in older radio sets and such. The easiest way to go about it IMO is to run them through Duncan Munro's database program: TDSL Some of them can be used indirectly: For instance the 13GF7 can be used in a series regulator, 5U8 is a rectifier, PL84 is the 15V heater version of the EL86/6CW5, etc, etc. If you should have questions about the usabilty of a particular type for audio, just ask. Cheers,

Franks I'll install the Tube data sheet locator and will try to check its specification. Can you recommend a good site for studying vacuum tubes? Thank you very much. |

Hi,

Besides books there are quite a number of sites with very useful information about the use of vacuum tubes for audio. The best known, I think, is John Broskie's The Tubecad Journal. TUBECAD Another must read series of articles by Norman Crowhurst can be found here: AUDIO CLASSROOM The same site carries a number of books and various references for the serious builder as well. Cheers,

Frank, 5U4 is a rectifier. 5U8 is a triode-pentode which comes in handy.
![]() Sounds like TV tubes, the sweeps could be used for output and such triodes, pentodes or triode-pentodes can be used for preamp and driver circuitry. Tim |

Hi,

Radford, I think. The Russians have a rectifier that is sometimes erroneously written as 5U8. (5C8S according to TDSL). Anyway, provided there are at least a few of the more interesting types available, some nice stuff can be built with some of the tubes on that list. The 12V6 is definetely a good tube to work with and there should still be plenty of NOS ones around. Cheers,
