Those fatter pins were down to us Euros with our "Magnoval" design. All else the same, but bigger pin diameter.
The EL/PL519 series is the most notable design using that base. A nice Mullard PL504 in front of me has pins that measured 1,25mm - or 50 thou (mils) (0.050") in traditional money. Meanwhile, a Novar 6CJ6 appears to be ~ 1mm/40thou in the pins. |

Most of the chinese sockets that claim to be Magnoval, are not. The only good Magnoval sockets are the SK-509 made by Svetlana.
