6c33c Question

I have heard that the heater socket contacts tend to fail when
using the 6c33c would it be ok to solder wires directly to the pins?
and would I need high temp solder? Would this tube give good
service at a slightly lower heater voltage say 11.6v?

Bob,

i would be reluctant to solder directly to pins of an all-glass tube. If you try it, make sure that the pin to be soldered has heatsinking tweezers clamped tightly on.

Maybe you want to make good-fitting heatsink tweezers:
clamp the jaws tightly together with a business card in between (the card provides a well-defined gap). Then drill a hole of exactly the diameter of the pin through the gap (use a drill bit having exactly the outer diameter of the pin). Done. now your heatsink tweezers have opposing notches exactly fitting over the pin.
Better use silicon heatsink grease, the pin never must become hot where it penetrates the glass.

Heatsink-making also works fine for phono cartridge pins. Been there ....
