Am having no luck finding out what impedance and wattage Sansui 1000 (not 1000A) output transformers are. Any info?

As I recall, the amp is rated at 55 w.p.c.
What are the output tubes? From that information, we should be able to make an educated guess.

If you know the secondary windings it's easy to find out the primary.
For example: connect 6V AC to the 8 ohm winding. the primary will have high voltage here Measure the voltage over the whole primary. Turns ratio is the primary volts divided with 6V. Primary impedance is approximately 8x(turns ratio squared).Say you measure 150V over the primary with 6V at the 8 ohm winding. Turns ratio is 25. 8x25x25 = 5000 ohms.

Jan--You just saved me a lot of time. With 6.0 volts on the 8 ohm secondary, I got 120 volts. With your formula, I figured I've got a 50 watt 3200 ohm plate/plate output here, with the legendary Sansui performance (I've used 1000A outputs with 6GM5s and had incredible results). The only question mark now is the maximum plate voltage. The 1000 used 25E5 sweep tubes, which are rated at a max of 250 volts @ 200 max ma. Maybe I should settle on a lower wattage amp using EL86/6CW5 tubes. Thanks much.
