Connecting cable

Morning all, could anyone please suggest to me the best cable for running from the RCA inputs to the volume pot, this will also be used form the 6SN7 valve base to pot, I am currently using some van damme 2 core and screen but it doesn't seem to be very reliable, is there such a thing as solid core for this type of cable.

In what sense is it not reliable? .....it seems very stange if you mean "electrical"?
Normally these kind of cables are not that critical.
I would guess the problem is something else?


I have used something like this......it is nice if the insulation is PTFE.

Thanks, it's just that it is very thin and as I'm still working on it, it tends to break very easily it's quite thin.

You can use almost any screened cable. Solid core means it stays where you put it; stranded means it can move; the audio signal does not care.

Find a decent stereo patch cable and cut the ends off. There's nothing finer.

There are lots of twisted two core screened control and instrumentation cables out there. These often have larger conductors than the cable currently giving the problems. RS or Farnell stock many of them by the metre and they are cheap. I use them in my own projects, never had any problems.

Looking on RS website I can't find them supplying by the metre if this is what you mean?

I use simple 22-2 with ground. Scraps of microphone line. They work well, have a decent twist and provide a shield.

I use chassis ground and a single 22 conductor from the RCA to the control grid except when I use shielded 2 wire Beldon cable for RIAA stages, leaving the ground disconnected at one end.

Fine gauge solder wick saturated with silver solder.

That's a bit weird, why would you do that when there are so many other things are available, especially as solder wick is not cheap
