Hey all, cool forum.

I Found what I believe is a mono tube amp.

I took it to get fixed and the very smart repairman said the power transformer is dead.

He could not try to fix or replace it without knowing the “ current and secondary voltage” of the power transformer.

So.... how do I figure out the missing info...

The company is called waveforms. And there is little information out there.

I have attached the schematics . Is that info on there?

It also came with some seriously large tubes.

Please help me get smart if you can.

This thing also came with a pre amp that I am looking for...

OK Dave, How do you convey the best 'get smart' advice to a someone lacking knowledge of unknown tube circuit ?

I’m not sure. 700+ Volts on the transformer is into really scary territory, a place where only those well versed in working with high voltage should venture, it is certainly enuff to kill you.

Thanx for asking… i continue to improve. Am now hobbling about with just a cane, 2nd round of physio is over in a month, but i’ll still have a ways to go.

What is the current and secondary voltage based on the details in the “everything I need to know section”
It's listed right there in the rating column of the Sam's photofact parts list.
(740V @ 150mA, 5V @3A, 6.3V @ 4A & 6.3V @ 1A)
The part numbers of the recommended replacement power transformers are long out of production. The Chicago was a potted unit, the Stancore is not. You'll most likely need one from Hammon or Edcor. Or you might find one on eBay as well.

I read him that info and it did not seem to help.
If you read him those numbers and they didn't understand, then your "tech" is no good. Time to find a new one.

Important! Do not spend a nickel on this amplifier until you verify the output transformer is good. Check for continuity and shorts to the core and secondary, This is best done by hypot testing with at least 500 volts DC. Lacking that, a multimeter is better then nothing. However it will not detect any leakage like a hypot will.
 
PCC 150 or PSC 150 chicago come up on ebay. Either one will bolt right up.

By "bolt right up" I mean fit, look and work the same but it is not something you should try on your own. As others have pointed out, the voltages involved here can kill you.

One important thing you need to know is "How did the power transformer died in the first place". You likely will see the same firework if you did not correct it before applying full AC power to the amp. The 2nd thing you should know from the pictures is that the power tube has been changed to a more powerful KT66 from the specified 6L6GA. They are somewhat interchangeable. The KT66 drawn more filament current than the 6L6GA. Looking at the power transformer spec, it should handle the KT66 filament current. The KT66 also can handle more high voltage current, but should things go wrong can do more damages to things that are in its path.
