I bought and measured a transformer that PRR suggested.
Pretty well matched, primary less than 1H, secondary - a bit more than 1H
Good for phone level sources, I would say, with low output impedance.
For consumer line level audio I would prefer no less than 60H

A ground loop is an aerial. What matters is the area within the loop. They can be unpredictable. What seems to have happened by happy accident is that there is nothing to be picked up within the area of whatever loop you have there.
Ground loop is innocent, until some odd current flows through it. Yes, RF as well. But ground wires are good aerials without any loops, as well! 🙂
I recently lifted the valves another 20mm above the top cover plate, which is metal.
This reduced the hum even more. Am going to lift it as much as possible, must just get longer standoffs.
Next is to fit the new transformer, hopefully this will silence it completely. 😉
