Default Hook-up Wire?

I searched some for my answers.

Re-wiring old guitar tube amp. The existing wire that needs replacing measures .04" (18 awg). Appears to be tin plated.

Silver or Tin plating preference?

PVC or Teflon insulation?

Standed or Solid conductor?

Thanks

go with teflon insulation, pvc isn't that great. copper wire is fine, and will save you a lot of money, if you get silver plated, that would be nice, but not necessary.

Hi,

IMO solid core is much easier to work with in a tube amp and should be less prone to microphony.

PTFE can be a PITA to strip if you don't have the appropriate tools,
it tends to stretch.
Alternatives are Tefzel hook-up wire or Kynar insulated copper wire.

Cheers,

Farnell.com sells silver plated solid and stranded copper conductors with PTFE insulation. from 18 to 28 AWG, try order code 322-0576.
