Will Simple 5687 or Etude 12b4A drive headphones?

I am thinking about building either one of these easy little circuits found on diyparadise.com primarily as a preamp however I would like to know if they could drive headphones too. I asked Yeo, the one who designed and built the projects at diyparadise.com, however he wasn't sure.

Hi,

Much will depend on the nominal impedance of the headphones...

It's a bit like asking if an amp with an output impedance of 1K will drive an 8 Ohm speaker.

So, yes it will make noise but it won't drive it properly as there's a complete impedance mismatch.

There is at least one amp there that uses 5687s and at least one other really good headphone amp.
