Default 2A3 Output Transformer

Hi all expert,

For a SE 2A3 (output 3.5W), what size of the output transformer is big enough?

1. 10W SE

2. 20W SE

3. 30W SE

Is bigger = better? Since the output is only 3.5 W, does 10W SE output transformer enough?

Thank you for your help.

Yes, a 10W transformer is enough. I use a 4-5W transformer in my amp (came from a Beovision 3400), and that works very well.

You should worry more about frequency response, primary inductance etc. The Watt rating does not matter. The larger transformers may be better, but not always.

What kind of equipments I need?

Thank you for your help.

To test a transformer you would need at least an audio oscillator, a scope and a VTVM.

But I am not sure how to do the actual testing, because for the test results to be correct you would have to simulate the actual circuit the transformer is intended for.

That means the signal source should have the same impedance as the tube. You should also pass the correct amount of DC through the primary.

For some tests of PP transformers look here: http://www.one-electron.com/Trans_Tests.html
